An ancient Egyptian literary work discovered dating back to around 2000
B.C., mentions the first known use of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
for medical use. It refers to a local peddler selling natron (a
naturally occurring mixture of sodium carbonate) for use in the
mummification process. Since then it has been used for literally
hundreds of things, from cleaning the toilet, to curing cancer,"or so it
has been claimed!"
