After cancer of the colon has been diagnosed; the next stage is for the patient to be offered some form of treatment. However, unlike many other cancers, surgery is the first form of treatment to be offered, with chemotherapy or radiation therapy being used to shrink the tumor before surgery in later stage cases. Colon cancer is highly treatable when diagnosed at an early stage.
